Shorty has made some real progress in the past couple of weeks since he was neutered. He looks at me in the face now, he'll come take food from my hands. He gets real excited when I come home from work now and just wags his tail big time. Then he drops into play posture when I let him out and gooses the back of my legs with his nose. He really does have a cute personality hiding in there. He still does much better when he is out with the grrrlz than when he is out by himself. He comes up to me on the sofa in the mornings now and roots his head around in my hands and feet. I think he thinks he is snuggling but he hasn't quite figured out its okay to BE snuggled. He tenses up still, but that is ok. We'll get there in time. I'm really proud of his progress so far, he's really trying to be a normal dog. We still have a quite ways to go but at least I know there is someone in there who wants to be loved and will respond to love now!

Shorty will definitely need to be placed in a home with NO SMALL animals at all. He busted into my indoor aviary a few weeks ago and tried to kill my Blue & Gold Macaw. My bird is fine now, but he suffered some major bruising and a bad puncture on his wing and was very traumatized. It has taken Stoney about a month to get over the brutal attack.

Shorty has a very strong PREY drive which he doesn't seem to be able to control. I have corected him dozens of times for jumping on the aviary and he still does it so he canot be around birds or small animals of any kind.

He can also jump right out of a 6 x 6 chain link run. he has never tried to jump my 6 foot wooden fence but it didn't take him two seconds to jump up, grab the top of the run with his front legs and climb on over with his back legs when I put him and Rosie in the run together outside! He is an escape artist, which may be the reason he ended up in the shleter to begin with.
